We’re so pleased to announce that Governor Cuomo signed the Research Animal Retirement Act today. This bill mandates state-funded research facilities to put up for adoption the dogs and cats they use in research–as long as those animals are adoptable. The Federation worked hard with our partners, the Beagle Freedom Project and the Humane Society of the United States, along with sponsors Assemblywoman Linda B. Rosenthal and State Senator Phi Boyle, to fashion a bill that was good for the animals and for New York’s network of animal shelters. We also want to thank all the shelters across the state who sent letters of support and all the advocates who made calls. This is great news for all involved!
