Stand Up for Animal Shelters Forum a Success

30 shelter professionals from around the state came to Albany on Sunday, April 10th for Stand Up for Animal Shelters: A One-Day Forum on Policy and Shelter Management. Attendees were briefed on policy issues they would be discussing the next day with their state legislators at Voices for Animals Day, the advocacy event the Fed co-sponsors

with the ASPCA. Shelter executive directors also had one on one meetings with NYSAPF Executive Director Libby Post to discuss legislative meeting strategy centering around their individual capital needs. Participants also heard from SPCA Serving Erie County staff on pet retention/safety net issues and from Mohawk Hudson Humane Society staff on creating a better adoption experience. Albany

Mayor Kathy Sheehan and her newly adopted pit bull, Odell, welcomed everyone to the event. Local news was also there. WNYT covered Sunday and Time Warner Cable News came to the Capitol on Monday.

The Fed also hosted an ASPCA Animal Cruelty Training on Monday which close to 50 law enforcement folks from across the state attended.
