2019 News Coverage on District Attorney’s Association of NYS’ Animal Crimes Task Force
The Fed’s Executive Director has been in conversations with the District Attorney’s Association of NYS for over a year encouraging the organization to establish an Animal Crimes Task Force. It is the Federation’s hope that this task force will raise the profile of animal crimes in DA’s offices across the state. See coverage below.

Hornell Area Humane Society received $93,760 to replace the existing canine housing with new materials recommended by the Association of Shelter Veterinarian Guidelines, install new ductwork, and add sound-proofing materials.
2018
The recent passage of the Companion Animal Capital Fund in the New York State legislature was featured on the Ossining Patch Community Corner site. The blog post highlights the SPCA of Westchester County. Shannon Laukhuf, the Executive Director of the SPCA of Westchester says that “Having the Companion Animal Fund will enable us to strengthen our fundraising because matching state funds may well be available to us”.

The Companion Animal Capital Fund received national spotlight when it was featured on The Humane Society of the United States Blog. The President/CEO, Wayne Pacelle, praises the actions of New York’s governor and legislature, who have taken meaningful actions to improve the living conditions of companion animals in New York State.

The Companion Animal Capital Fund was featured on the Rensselaer County Regional Chamber of Commerce website. Brad Shear, the former Executive Director of the New York State Animal Protection Federation and current director of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society states that the Companion Animal Capital Fund “is essential and much needed to make sure animals and our communities are kept safe”.

The Companion Animal Capital Fund received national recognition through the ASPCA’s Blog site. Matt Bershadker, the President & CEO of the ASPCA applauded the inanition of the Fund by the Federation and the commitment from Governor Cuomo and the state legislation for making animal welfare a state imperative and potentially inspire other states to follow their lead.

The Companion Animal Capital Fund was featured as the Editor’s Pick in The Oneonta Daily Star. The article highlights the work of the Federation for securing funding to be used exclusively for capital improvements for animal shelters. Stacie Haynes, the executive director of the Susquehanna Animal Shelter describes the Companion Animal Capital Fund as a “game changer” for facilities that rely exclusively on help from the local community.
